Tips And Tricks For Traveling With Kids With Allergies

Tips And Tricks For Traveling With Kids With Allergies The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseAre you planning on taking your kids away to some foreign land? Then, this post is here to help. We take a look at some of the top tips and tricks for travelling with kids with allergies. Here’s everything you need to know.

Do Some Research First

Before you book your flights, hotels, or activities, do some research on the destination and the allergy policies of the places you will visit. Find out if accommodation and the people who will be looking after you are set up for dealing with children (or other family members with allergies). Calling ahead of time is especially important if your kid has a serious allergy that could lead to anaphylaxis.

Most hotels and airlines will list their allergy restrictions and let you know whether they offer support. However, they may not guarantee safety (such as a nut-free environment).

Pack Everything You Need

Also, when packing for your trip, make sure you bring enough medication and supplies for your kids’ allergies. Bring everything your doctor gave you, such as antihistamines, epinephrine injectors, inhalers, nasal sprays, eye drops and creams.

Also, make sure you pack plenty of snacks and drinks that are safe for your kids to eat and drink, just in case you’re in the middle of nowhere and don’t have any supplies at your destination. (Some hotels only have vending machines, which isn’t ideal when you have hungry children to feed).

Always pack plenty of wipes, hand sanitisers, tissues, and masks. Keep everything clean and protect children from germs.

Go Prepared

Next, make sure you go prepared. Before you leave, ensure you have everything necessary for your kids’ allergies. This includes a letter from your doctor explaining their condition and treatment plan, a list of their medications and dosage, and an outline of what to do in the event of an emergency. You can also get a skin prick test done before you travel to see what specifically is causing allergies in your child. These tests can be an excellent way to get further information and work out what you need to avoid at your destination.

Communicate Clearly To Everyone Involved

You’ll also want to communicate clearly when travelling overseas with kids. Tell the staff of the airline and other attractions you visit about your kids’ allergies and ask them to take precautions.

You can also educate your children on what they need to do to stay healthy. For instance, you can show them how to use their medications if they experience a flare-up and any foreign phrases they can use to get help.

Don’t Forget To Have Fun

Tips And Tricks For Traveling With Kids With Allergies The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseLastly, don’t forget to have fun. Travelling with kids with allergies may seem stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. With some planning and preparation, you can have a wonderful time exploring new places and cultures with your family. After all, the purpose of taking family vacations is to enjoy yourself and spend time with the people you love. Remember to be flexible and adaptable to any changes or challenges that may arise during your trip.
