What To Think About Before Renovating Your Living Room

What To Think About Before Renovating Your Living Room The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseThe living room is where we do so much of our… well… living. So it’s perhaps the one room in the house you want to spend a little more time and effort considering before starting a serious renovation. It’s a room you’re going to be spending so much time in and where you’ll most likely be entertaining guests for years to come, after all.

If you’re planning on a living room renovation in the coming months but want to make sure you’re not missing out any of the finer details, we’ll be guiding you through all of the little things that come together to make your living room the beating heart of your home. You might be consumed by paint colours, wallpapers, and woodwork, but there are a few more of the less fun aspects that you may need to think about before you start renovating.

Radiator location

When it comes to adding a little creative flair to your radiators, location is incredibly important. You need to think about not only where they need to be to generate enough heat to fill the room but where they need to be positioned to make a stylistic impact.

Planning

There are dozens of things to consider when it comes to planning. Make sure you are set on the plan the designs are right and you are 100% happy with the timeframes, materials and what extra costs may be involved. Ask yourself if there is sufficient stock of everything you need and what you need to do first as far as “ground work” is concerned. Do you need to replace electrics, or sockets? Are you going to need to hire some storage space or sort out a skip? If you haven’t got a plan sorted then you really shouldn’t be starting yet.

Budget

What would you need to spend in order for this renovation to be financially worthwhile? How long are you staying for too? Is this your forever home or is this just an investment you need to make it worth your while? If it’s the latter, you might want to spend a little less and ensure everything is a little more generic. Are you going to be replacing any doors or windows? In this case, double-glazing guides need to be looked at to keep your home warmer and more efficient. And it’s going to cost!

What’s the focal point?

Implement a focal point to the room. Nine times out of ten this will be the television, the fireplace or the coffee table. What about your lighting too? Focus your lighting around your focal point and ensure you have enough sockets to supply electricity to all lamps, as they are generally more ambient and aesthetically pleasing than ceiling lamps.
