Why I Am No Longer Making New Years Resolutions

Why I Am No Longer Making New Years Resolutions The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseEvery year without fail I make them.

Every year without fail I spend weeks and months agonising over failing at not completing my resolutions.

This year there are no ‘new year’ resolutions.

This year I am no longer going to batter my own self esteem by setting unmanageable tasks for myself that will only leave me failing by February or March if I am very lucky.

I am sure I am not alone on the high stress level front parenting 2 children and having medical issues currently that leave me in excruciating pain.

I am sure I am not alone in having very limited childcare that supposedly meant working from home was flexible … and it was until I added in a crawling baby and and things got so much harder than we anticipated to carry on working from home without some reprieve.

It may sound a little like I am moaning about my life and I’m honestly not, I’m just explaining that … this is my life and so adding yet more pressure to it not helpful nor is it sensible.

Next year my family and I will be dealing with some uncertain weeks as I head off to have surgery on the 15th February and we have no idea how we are going to cope, physically with me being unable to pick anything up for months (and having a 1-year-old) and also financially. I think we will be heading for uncharted territory and undoubtedly masses of anxiety and stress.

This may sound like a pity party but it’s not, this year I am just avoiding making new years resolutions that will fail just by their very nature and instead I am going to enjoy what 2017 might bring … hopefully health and happiness and if it ticks those 2 boxes then I am going to be more than a happy camper.

What new years resolutions have you made in the past, and have you stuck to them?
