Why I Have Had My Eyebrows Tattooed On

I guess explaining why I have recently have my eyebrows tattooed on is a somewhat odd subject matter for a parenting and family blog and to start with I was intending not to share.

However after 20+ years of nightmares with my eyebrows I thought I might not be alone.

I am not a heavy fashion conscious person, nor do I tend to follow trends and ‘in’ things but I do like to think I am reasonably classic person and I do like to make the most of what I have and trust me being overweight and after having 3 children and some major medical issues I try.

Add into this mix the fact I have fairly light hair (even under highlights) and I spent my teens and early 20’s plucking out practically every eyebrow hair I had to within an inch of its life.

So none of this will come as a shock that I have been spent 20 years re penciling in my patchy bare eyebrows in the hopes of covering them.

I know this is probably going to sound utterly shallow but my lacking brows have had an impact on my life, from low confidence to turning down activities with my family like swimming as the thought of swimming round a pool having lost half an eyebrow or worse still both of them makes me shudder!

Now don’t get me wrong I am no numpty, I have done an epic amount of research around the pro’s and con’s of tattooing on eyebrows, let’s be real something on your face that draws people attention in a bad way is certainly not the look I was going for. What I wanted was a natural, full brow that is a natural in colour and shape and in fact brows that didn’t look anything other than normal.

Obviously tattooing anything on your face runs risks but due to the fact I am 37 and with lots of facial charges that will happen over the next hopefully 50+ years then I wanted an option to have something with no daily maintenance but would not last a lifetime either so made the decision to go with semi permanent tattooed eyebrows instead.

After researching again for sometime I decided to go to a fairly local lady, Charmaine a semi-permanent make up (micro pigmentation) technician based at Body Craft in Nottingham and with over a decade of tattooing experience and over 5 years of experience in this kind of tattooing I decided it was time to get going and head over and visit her for my first part of the 2 part treatment.

I have to say before I met Charmaine I was totally fretting but thank goodness she but me at ease straightaway and after filling in my forms it was time for her to work her magic.

Firstly it was time for some numbing cream and then she set about with a pencil as the brows are pencilled on and measured and checked and altered and tweeked if needed to make sure they were ‘my’ eyebrows and not carbon copies of the previous 30 people who have had the treatment … now trust me, doing my research I know some that do this and regardless of if they eyebrow shape and thickness suits they don’t care they just use the same template *shudder*

Thankfully Charmaine takes great pride in her work and went for a shape not too dissimilar to what I have been penciling on for the last 15+ years and she toned the ink to match with my own hair colour too!

Now I am not going to lie … It’s not painful, but it did get slightly uncomfortable, although in fairness I am a wimp and have no pain threshold at all but the tattooing aspect of the procedure really didn’t seem to take very long at all.

After returning for my final treatment and now they have healed I am so totally loving my eyebrows for the first time in so many years I feel ‘normal’ and I don’t feel I have to cover my face just in case I am missing an eyebrow! … and yes they did just disappear sometimes.

Tattooing your face, semi-permanent or not is a very very big decision and for me its given me back my confidence, and so much time in the mornings and lunchtime, and afternoons after all when you’re hiding the fact you have no eyebrows the upkeep of appearances is very time-consuming.

I am just so very pleased I shopped about and took the time to research Charmaine’s work before going ahead.

If you are in the Nottingham area and are looking into having this treatment I can highly recommend Charmaine and you can find her page HERE.

That looks fab. I’d definitely consider this. I have such light eyebrows considering how dark my hair is x
