4 Tips On How To Create Me-Time As A Parent

4 Tips On How To Create Me-Time As A Parent The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseParenting is a lifetime adventure. When that little bundle of joy arrives, your entire world focuses on that tiny face swaddled in soft blankets. After a while, you miss those ‘me-time’ moments you had before but with a little guilt. However, did you know that ‘me-time’ is a necessary and healthy feature of your mental health? Research proves that children from mentally-unbalanced homes are prone to higher instability levels themselves- a burnout parent does not make for a mentally balanced home. Read on to learn some tips to help gain some ‘me-time’ as a parent.

  • Take advantage of your children’s bedtime

As parents, you are often sleep-deprived and perform tasks on a limited amount of energy. Setting an earlier bedtime for your child is an opportune moment to gain more sleep or, better yet, spend quality time with yourself. Before you retire to bed, ensure that your bedroom is cozy and purposed for a restful night. If you require your bedroom to have increased darkness or minimum light, get versatile shutters or blinds from S:CRAFT. You can also listen to soothing music, read a novel, or indulge in a bubble bath before you sleep.

  • Reconnect with your partner

When you have children, it is even more challenging to focus on your relationship with your partner. Taking care of your family is a full-time job, which leaves little time for romance. It is time to reignite that spark. Have a nanny or relative come over to care for your children while you go out for date night with your partner. You can also stay at home to watch a movie, go out for a picnic, or spend time talking to each other on the sofa. Indulge in activities that would strengthen your bond, ignite your spark, and create new memories.

  • Reserve dates for an outing with friends

There are times you may find your day or weekend suddenly ‘child-free.’ Maybe a friend, a relative, or an in-law popped in to help take some pressure off you. You couldn’t have predicted that on a tarot reading! Take the time to catch with your friends.

4 Tips On How To Create Me-Time As A Parent The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseIt is necessary to maintain and nurture your social network, a support system for optimum emotional health. So, schedule fun activities with your friends whenever the opportunity arises.

  • Discover yourself

Although it is easy to fall into the temptation of copying the methods and patterns of other parents, you should take the time to be you. Using yourself as a reference point, conduct a self-search in your free time to learn more about yourself and your interest. Doing this would even provide you with new ways to appreciate your family more and be a good parent to your children.

Even though you love your children to bits, do not feel guilty about taking a day off for some time to yourself. The purpose of your ‘me-time’ is to reconnect with the things that make you happy and relaxed. Remember that you can only take care of others when you take care of yourself.
