The UK has short summers; everyone knows that. We all build ourselves up and get so excited for one week of sunshine, and the rest is cloud/rain but with milder temperatures.
To say the UK has a real summer would be a lie, and we might already be at the end of the one we’re having right now. According to the news reports, we’re expected to have one of the most mild summers recorded.
Still, even though this year is already coming to a close (we think), there’s still time to think about next year. One thing we all regret is not having a garden ready for the sporadic periods of sun we have in the UK. Below, we’ll give you some ideas for a dream UK garden ready for the short UK summers.
Designing for Maximum Enjoyment
The first stage in making a dream garden is good design. A good design is everything.
If you picture your garden, what do you see? Do you imagine it as a peaceful haven with soft seating and water features or as a lively area for barbecues and parties? Or both! Set goals and plan accordingly. You can get lovely Rattan furniture that’s suitable for all functions.
Adding multi-functional features like a pergola for shade and a structure for climbing plants makes it look completely magical.
Another thing is choosing appropriate plants. Go for strong, low-maintenance varieties that can handle different UK climates. Because, let’s face it, we go through all the climates in one month during summer. Good examples are perennials like lavenders, geraniums, or hostas.
Renovating the Garden: Tools and Techniques
Having the right tools and equipment is essential, but if you’re going through full-scale renovation, let’s face it, you’re probably not going to have the right tools. Some businesses have a pre-cast dock leveller system, making work easier while saving time and money during this process. They’ll also have hedge cutters, chainsaws, grass trimmers – all the tools you most likely won’t have sat in your shed.
If you are going to do it yourself, renting equipment like lawn aerators, cultivators, or power washers can significantly reduce costs associated with garden renovations.
Creating a Cosy and Inviting Space
Once structural parts are up, it’s time to concentrate on aesthetic appeal and comfort.
Look out for weather-resistant materials for your furniture – teak and aluminium are some of the best, but so are synthetic rattan-made products. Soft seats accompanied by cushions and throws can make any garden cosy.
And don’t forget the lighting for those late-night garden BBQs. Solar-powered lights in the garden work really well in the summer and string lights will look the cutest. String fairy lights in the garden always set the mood for any gathering!
What would you say your dream garden is? It depends on how you want to use it and how often you use it. But with the weather like we’ve been having recently, we bet you’ll want to be in the garden 24/7! Unless you’re being hit by the crazy pollen levels this year…you might be stuck indoors.
