We fell in love with Wales after our family camping holiday last year and thankfully we managed to get another trip booked in for this year.
The place we booked to stay in left a lot to be desired in Prestatyn but thankfully the local area had a wealth of things to do as a family.
Rhyl, is lovely seaside town which was situated only a few miles away from where we were staying.
Marine Lake
Our first stop while in Rhyl was to visit Marine Lake. Situated on the outskirts of Rhyl there is plenty of parking onsite but also with free parking the retail site across the road has plenty of free parking also!
Marine Lake is a great spot for getting out in the fresh air and blowing away the cobwebs. It almost circular and has a wealth of benches and seating around it making it a great space to take a picnic and feed the kids!
There are 2 children’s play parks that offer such a lovely range of equipment for most ages, along with a basketball court.
My kids loved being able to swing, jump, climb and balance and I loved that they could get rid of some pent up energy.
We were reliably informed that crabbing on site is also great but with strong winds and a wild Jacob we thought it best not to try that one out.
Apparently there are also water sports that happen on the lake also but they weren’t happening when we visited.
Rhyl Miniature Railway
Located on the same site as the Marine Lake the Rhyl miniature railway is something that we all loved. The 15 inch gauge miniature railway offers rides around Marine Lake so we jumped at the chance to climb aboard and go on trip around the lake.
Jacob loved it every time we tooted!
It made for a lovely morning and totally made the visit to Marina Park!
SC2
The SC2 centre in Rhyl has a fantastic looking water park but since Wales was behind our restrictions being lifted we were unable to use the waterpark. There was also a Laser tag in the building but again we were unable to use that too.
We were however thrilled to find out that their cafe/bar was still open and serving up the Dine In To Help Out. They did a great job of keeping all visitors separate and had spread their tables and chairs out fabulously so I really felt comfortable.
Their menu was well thought out and the food was totally delicious. We would certainly be heading back here if we were in the area again!
We didn’t get on the beach due to tide times while we were there. However, we did get time to squeeze in a Mr Whippy ice cream and a stroll across the front.
Oh and did I mention the amusement arcades … after all a seaside holiday in the UK wouldn’t be a holiday without a go on the 2p machines or a ride on a cheesy kids ride!
