This year has been so hard for many people from day to day lives being effected, ill health and general uncertainty and hardship for so many this year has sucked big time.
Us like so many people had holiday plans cancelled and changed and after our plans were changed we snook in with a cheeky break a way to Wales which was the worst holiday we had ever had. So when we returned home in August we booked in a family trip to the Yorkshire coast at Reighton Sands with my in laws and we were so excited to visit.
Thankfully even with the lockdown restrictions for our tier changing just before the break it meant the we were still able to go on holiday with Ollie’s parents as they were staying in a different location to us although in the same area and with so many of our plans
With changes made to our holiday plans for this year and after a dreadful holiday to Wales in the summer we decided before lockdown lifted another break was needed. The October half term was picked for us to finally get away.
During the 5 days away we decided to head back to somewhere we had been before by my in laws had not and that was Sewerby Hall and gardens.
A few years back we took a day trip there and fell in love. Sewerby Hall is situated in a dramatic clifftop position above Bridlington with spectacular views. It is set in 50 acres of early 19th Century parkland which also includes the stunning hall and even a zoo.
Zoo
We arrived nice and early after pre booking online to make sure we secure entry we decided that this visit would include the grounds, hall and zoo. This was the first time we visited the hall, last time it was just the zoo and gardens.
Being one of the first families on site we went straight to the zoo. It is not a massive commercial zoo but it has some amazing birds, monkeys and goats and the cutest penguins!
The boys love this little zoo and I think it would be fair to say so did my husband as he and Joshua fell in love with an orphaned dwarf sheep who cried like a child and wanted picking up from the keeper all the time!
Sewerby Hall
After finishing at the zoo we timed the visit perfectly as one of the first groups to head into the house with only one set before us. We were greeted in the entrance and Sewerby Hall’s past history was briefly explained and we then headed off to explore the hall in our family bubble.
There were information boards all over with in-depth information about the halls previous life and families that came and go within it.
The COVID restrictions meant there was a strict one way only system in place but this didn’t impact the visit in the slightest and in fact I think it helped as it meant that everyone kept well away from each other and we actually got to read and take our time exploring.
Gardens & Park
We finished off the visit with walk through the gardens exploring the rose garden and walled garden and discovered wooden carvings and quotes dotted around.
The giant monkey puzzle trees were stunning and it was lovely to blow the cobwebs away before heading to the tea room for cake and a drink while sat outside taking in the beautiful gardens before heading off to the children’s play park.
If you haven’t visited before I would highly recommend a visit as its such a lovely place to go no matter what the weather.
