Recently Jacob moved up into the pre school room at nursery and he has taken a keen interest in learning.
With school now only around 18 months away we are super keen to help teach him the alphabet, learn to recognise and spell his name. Along with teaching him to write his own name. All perfectly reasonable life skills that pre schooler needs to address.
Mr Pencil’s Alphabet Backpack
A little while ago we had the privilege of being sent out a LeapFrog Mr. Pencil Alphabet Backpack for our 3 year old. So Jacob was super eager to try it out and to see what we thought. We were excited as we have loved many LeapFrog toys over the years!
The backpack is designed for use for children aged 3 and upwards and uses 2 x AA batteries. Which you will be pleased to know that are included with the toy.
Features
The Mr Pencil backpack has seven activities that teach letter names, letter sounds, letter writing, reading and even drawing animals. It has an easy erase drawing board ideal for following Mr Pencils drawing commands and it has a pencil attached ready for use no matter where you are.
Playing With The Mr Pencil Alphabet Backpack
Jacob was super excited from the off. Thankfully it was packaged well but with those super fixings that mean you just have to twist them and it releases. So in a matter of minutes the backpack was free and ready to have its straps attached.
Initially I had worried about attaching the straps but again they were super simple.
Jacob loved Mr Pencils voice and the 26 removable letters. The letters are recognised by the backpack as they are pushed into their puzzle places within the backpack and letter animals animate on the LED screen as they say their names and letter sounds
It is a great size ideal for pre schoolers to wear without compromising the size of the letters or other features. Jacob did slightly struggle to begin with to fasten the backpack (its plastic and a little stiff to start) However, a few weeks on and he is now managing this on his own.
Overall Thoughts
Great product ideal for fine motor skills along with helping develop speech and language. It had the kids seal of approval from Jacob. And for its £30-£35 price tag it makes a great addition to any toy box too!
