Having an elective section in one sense it made it easier to prepare Joshua for what was going to happen, he knew his Effie and Granddad were going to come over in the morning and walk him to school as Daddy was taking me to have an operation to have his brother and that he would get to meet him after school when Daddy came back to collect him.
He also knew that Daddy was collecting us all a McDonalds to eat together at the hospital and if I am honest the excitement between meeting Jacob and the McDonalds fluctuated from one to another for a few minutes there!
On the day Jacob arrived I will never forget Joshua’s little face peering through that blue hospital curtain as he grinned at me and his new brother …. It really was the proudest face I think I have ever seen.
Since returning home this first month has been hard as it is with any newborn in the house while trying to get back to some normality but it’s also been incredibly beautiful .. beautiful in the fact I have had the pleasure of watching Joshua develop into a really really loving big brother who loves nothing more than to sing his brother songs … and not just any old songs, songs that he makes up himself about the two of them, he likes to sit next to him no matter what he is doing and is loving ‘assisting’ in even the most menial of tasks .. bum changing!
I am so looking forward to seeing the relationship grow between these two, and certainly more so when Jacob starts responding to his big brother as I have no doubt he is going to be totally thrilled when he knows his brother is ‘talking’ to him or reacting to him!
This month has totally been physically draining but mentally and emotionally amazing … it really is the small things that make it all worthwhile and seeing my boys starting to develop a relationship between themselves has been one of them!
