When the symptoms of Chicken Pox showed their ugly pus filled faces last week I was dreading the onslaught of high temperatures, grumpy toddlers and a fraught and anxious set of parents, never mind the scratching and crying!
How wrong could I have been!
The first batch of spots arrived on the Sunday morning and during the week the spots increased. We dutifully kept him off Nursery on the Wednesday and still there were no issues. Unless you call the argument discussion Ollie and I had over being able to catch Chicken Pox more than once … Yes once again I am right and yes you can get Chicken Pox more than once in a lifetime.
I think we have been super lucky as I remember when I was little we scratched and rubbed and moaned and it felt like we had them forever .. or so it seemed. Not to mention the days covered in calamine lotion!
So with spots mainly resined to the truck and hairline with the help of some Priton and ibuprofen we got to the other side, massively unscathed and with full sanity, or at least as much as there was when it arrived anyway.
So this officially is the first Childhood Disease that Joshua has picked up and I am shocked to say that it was not as bad as anticipated .. although now I fear we will pay the price with the next one that may come our way!

Chicken pox can be so innocuous that tons of people don’t even realise they had it. The most times I’ve heard of one person genuinely getting chicken pox is 5 – poor soul! All of mine have had a good dose once and the grumpiness is generally over before the spots are in full bloom, it’s mainly adults who have a nasty time of it! 🙂
OMG 5 times that must be blooming awful Jenny what a nightmare! i think we did have some grumpiness for a couple of days about 10 days ago so think that could of been it! x
Glad it wasn’t that bad in the end. Our two oldest had it a couple of years ago and Beanie had so much of a temperature and was so weak that she did not have any energy to scratch. We had lots and lots of cuddles on the sofa. Mel
oh no!! thats dreadful, we seem to have been pretty ok with it all so i think we have been lucky! x
My children had them when they were 2 and 7. Generally they were ok and went through fairly easy. Hope you coast through

Glad it hasn’t been so bad. We’ve escaped so far!! My brother has had chicken pox five times – he’s a carrier!

Oh no 🙁 I am dreading chicken pox. I remember it vividly from childhood, the itching, the calomine lotion, the uncomfortableness. Awful 🙁 x
I so thought that is how Joshua would of been this week but he has not batted an eyelid at it!! its shocked me! x
Gem had it about a month ago and I too was surprised about how low-drama it was.
The week before the spots came out though – she was quite grumpy and not herself at all.
I’m glad it’s all cleared up and Joshua is doing great.
Long time – I’ve not been in touch as much since work got mega busy.

Glad he hasn’t suffered too much with it. Neither of mine had it very bad which does make me worry they may get it again sometime!
he has been really rather chilled about it to be honest, not what i was expecting! x

My wee man thankfully had it tame as well and the worst bit was just being stuck inside! I on the other hand had it in my 20s and it was horrible just horrible!
thanks goodness for tame varieties of the pox did you have as a child? i had it really quite badly compared to Joshua x
Poor baby, I hope he’s doing better. We’ve vaccinated against it, but of course, it’s not 100% protection.
he is almost 98% spot free now thank goodness although he really didnt have them as badly as i had expected x
My two had it one after the other last summer with huge spots that they couldn’t bear being touched/clothed, it was that week where it was 30 degrees so they walked around in pants/nappy and slept sweating and itching upright on me in chair. four terrible days in the middle, but to be honest it was probably the heat causing the worst of it. it was quite a nasty strain as others had it bad too.
aww bless them, with 2 of them down with it most of been super hard work for you honey! x
