I am sat here feeling quite bereft, my baby is no longer my baby and is in fact now a toddler, this realisation has been brewing under the surface for some time however I have been burying my head in the baby wipes in the hopes I could keep just a little part of my boy a baby .. wrong or not that is whats happened!
We bought Joshua a toddler bed many many months ago and set it up, bought curtains, bedding and had the room ready to go but I have found excuse after excuse not to move him into it, we need a safety gate for his door, we are going on holiday in a few weeks, I’m at Britmums Live that weekend …
Well we finally took the plunge a week ago and its been received with mixed reactions from us all. The first evening we put him to bed he was excited to start but that followed about 5 minutes of tears …. then a full undisturbed night of sleep all round (or so everyone thought as I snook in several times in the night just to check he was alright.. and yes I have a baby monitor)
Joshua has been very impressed with his big boy room and wants to show everyone his room, including the postman while I signed for a parcel! (he politely declined …Phew)
However all is not perfect, Joshua has now decided to cry at around 3 am each night shouting “DADDY HELP MEEEEEEE” …….. we are all shattered and crave sleep, however it has really made me realise that my baby days with Joshua are really well and truly over and Joshua the fully fledged toddler is now here…

Bless him! It has to happen, but it’s hard when it’s your youngest. I still lift my daughter in and out of bed and she’s 7! So funny he wanted the postman to look at his new bed!
lol thanks Sarah, he wants everyone to look!
I really feel the too. How old is he? E is 15 months and can climb out of the cots at nursery now, out cot bed is bigger but it’s only a matter of time I am sure and I’m dreading the day we take the sides off! 🙁
Hope last night was better x
aww thanks honey, he was a little better and did settle himself .. phew! x
It comes around so quickly doesn’t it. He looks quite the big boy in his new bed.
aww thanks Erica, i think he could of realistically been in it about a year ago but i couldnt fact it! lol
Awww, big big step for your J. Hope he gives you all a better sleep soon x
thanks Jeannette its been gutting .. i am sad i know!
How adorable. Its a HUGE change for them…and of course emotional for you because there is that bye bye baby and hello toddler transition! Hopefully those 3am shout-out stop soon! xx
Aww thanks so much Debs, i have felt really emotional about the whole thing and felt stupid about it really! x
What is it with 3am – same here! I call it the witching hour… Hope you had a good night last night all fresh for Magic Moments! In fact, a good night’s sleep would be a magic moment! Tell me about it xxx
as awful as it sound honey i am so glad i am not on my own!!
I hope your night was a lot better too my lovely x
Ahh well done you on taking the plunge! I’m still at the “we need a gate for his door” stage. The bed is all there and ready!! I hope the 3am moments disappear quickly 🙂 they really are growing up aren’t they?
awww honey i so know how you feel!! i dont know where the time has gone!
P.s i do hope you dont get the 3am shouts too
Oh a proper bed!! That is grown up. I’m so not ready for any of this stuff, I miss having a tiny baby. Chubs is standing on her own & the next thing I know she’ll be walking everywhere! Can’t they just stop? Just for a couple of months?! x
awww Katie i so know how you feel. I really dont know where the time has gone at all!!
My baby needs to go in a toddler bed too. I just don’t have the energy at the moment to keep putting him back x
You maybe surprised, Joshua hasnt left his yet, he shouts when he wants anything! i fear he maybe frightened of the carpet! lol
Aah. Glad to see he’s got IgglePiggle to snuggle up to! It’s funny how they don’t get out when they’re new to it. I remember being sure both mine would just keep getting up, but they didn’t. It’s a whole other story now tho- especially with the light evenings-grrrr!!
lol i fear we are on the verge of bed escape soon! they are buggers arent they!
wow they grow so fast…so glad he loves his new room and bed…its all so new when they go into a big bed….I hope the waking up in the night passes soon x
awww thanks honey x
This made me sad, he will always be your baby. We still have Ethan in his cot (don’t tell anyone lol) but this helps us control our lack of sleep a little bit. I hope he settles soon :0) x
awww thanks jane, we really miss him being in his cot but his cot was so small he was hurting himself in there … 🙁
I so feel the same the time has slipped away so so quickly i seem to of blinked and he is a toddler!! xx
It’s hard to admit they are growing up… but on the bright side you have all the toddler adventures to look forward to now :o) Gorgeous photos xx
I am so liking your style!! i do hope we dont get too many tantrums! lol x
Oh my! Going from baby to toddler is so difficult. The one that really drives it home for me is the independence. It’s terrifying!
I hink its the whole thought he wont need me is totally terrifying!! i hope he needs me for a very long time!!
It is scary just how quickly it happens Jaime. When I look at my “baby” and realise she’s 20 months old now and trying to be so grown up, I want to shout no, slow down. We had to move her to a toddler bed about 3 weeks ago, so far so good, she has taken it in her stride, but I still feel a bit gutted looking at her lying asleep in a proper bed and realising, my babies are gone and I now officially have 2 toddlers! So I understand how you’re feeling, it would be great to bottle that baby magic and be able to just bring it out when we needed a fix ha xx
awww honey it really did hurt a little seeing him in his big boy bed! i know i am an over emotional person really but i did shed a tear or two .. on my own.
Big hugs to you too!!
Joshua looks so grown up in his big bed! Funnily enough POD shouts for Daddy all the time. Usually first thing in the morning with “Open the gate Daddy”. They’re growing way too fast x
its mad isnt it that they always shout for Daddy! lol i do wish the time would slow just a little bit!
How funny our Magic moments are on a very similar theme this week mine is just a few years later!
I’m sure Joshua will settle down soon but I fear the climbing out stage will begin anytime now, poor you x
lol i fear this is my next trial!! lol will be over to visit yours shortly x
Aw, bless you all! I remember that moment so well – excited for the next stage, but bereft at no longer having an ickle tiny baby! Hope the 3am wake-up calls subside quick smart!
awww Thanks Luci its such a strange time i do miss my little baby stage but i cant keep him like that 🙁 .. heres to toddler time
Oh no. Poor you! We plan to move Littlebit from cot to toddler bed over the summer, eeeek! x
Thanks honey, i do hope your transition goes well!! will keep my fingers crossed for you x
Aww a big step for you all x
thanks Lisa xx
The pics are so cute…even though his eyes look a tad sore from crying in most of them! A lovely moment to record on your blog though. A toddler indeed 🙂
awww thanks Suzanne, he had been crying poor little fellow lol i am not sure where the time went!
It’s horrible but exciting at the same time isn’t it. Love his new room! I do wish they would stay small for longer though 🙁 x
i am so with you, just another baby year would be good! xx
My 2 1/2 year old’s still in his cotbed with the sides up. I’d be happy to move him although he’s fine with it, the OH doesn’t see the need to change him. which is fine, but he’ll never remove the sides until N learns to climb out and so far apart from one leg being put over, there’s no further attempt. I’m quite looking forward to the next stage for him.
I’ve linked up for the first time.
So lovely to have you linked up Emma 🙂
I think our cot was too small and he was waking in the night after nutting the sides so we really did have to move him! he never managed to escape thank goodness!
Arrhh, he really is adorable and although my two are pretty big now, the youngest being almost 11, I can still remember the move to a ‘big bed’. We had quite a few nights of little sleep – funny how neither felt they could get out of bed and come into our room though. They would just scream like a banshee and we would come racing in convinced their lives were in danger!
Helen you have it in one! he just wails like he is being attacked and shouting HELP ME! lol they are little monkeys arent they!
Oh no, I hope you manage to get a good night sleep soon. There’s nothing worse than broken sleep.
I feel exhausted but elated and bereft all at the same time!
How funny that I posted about the next stage, the demise of the toddler bed.
So much love goes on in toddler beds…cuddles, comforts, soothing and squeezles 🙂
Thanks for also linking up with The Monday Club x
i just think great minds!! lol my pleasure to link i have added your badge to my linky love page. will be over to read and comment tomorrow on the other linkers x
I’ll be just the same when it comes time to move the wee girl into a bed 🙁 Not for a while yet thankfully! When we moved our younger boy (when he learnt how to climb out of the cot…) we kept him in a grobag in the hope that he’d stay put, he very quickly learnt how to do a Maggie Simpson in it!
Hope the 3am calls stop soon x
we used a grobag in the same hopes lol
There is no halting the passage of time, embrace and enjoy, there is so much ahead for you all.
Awww Fiona you are so right! x
Awwww time goes so fast doesn’t it?
it sure does and I am on the verge of tears thinking about where it all went, if only I could have another few months, maybe I would feel ready lol xx
They grow so fast…I remember putting my toddler in his big boy bed/bedroom…harsh! Then suddenly they become teenagers O_o
He’ll get there – it’s a big change for him and you x
I dont remember Beth moving into her big girl bed but this time seems to of flown!, hope your well honey x
