How to Update Your Home to Look & Feel More Luxurious

How to Update Your Home to Look & Feel More Luxurious The Oliver\\\'s Madhouse

There are endless possibilities when it comes to updating your home. Making your home look and feel more luxurious is a common goal, and one that can be achieved on both big and small budgets with the right updates. When your goal is to make your home look and feel more luxurious, you will find that you are able to incorporate personal character while enhancing your daily living and increasing the value of your property.

Part of making your home more luxurious is focusing on the smaller details and making intentional choices that reflect your personality. By building your own sanctuary within your home, you can create a cohesive and well-decorated space built on your life experience and future goals.

Fortunately, luxury can be crafted with both simple and key improvements, depending on your style, budget and time.

To help you on your journey, here are some key areas to focus on that will help your home look and feel more luxurious. You can then scale your updates up and down based on your time, budget and goals.

Lighting and textiles

Simply updating the lights in your home and adding textiles can significantly change how luxurious your home feels. This is a tactile way of crafting more both functionality and ambiance into your home. When luxury is carved into the foundations of the home, it helps the luxury feel more natural.

Consider how you can layer lighting around your home. Luxury design is void of single, flat lights and instead, incorporates a variety of lights to create depth, visual interest and warmth. Consider a combination of functional and task lights for activities, accent lighting that highlights architectural features or artwork and ambient lighting around your home. Install dimmers and smart controls to help you adjust the brightness for different times of day and different moods. Smart lighting will help you to completely customise lighting. Use paintable brass plates for switches & outlets so you can update dated fixtures with statement pieces instead. This can help to add more visual impact around the room.

Architectural details

Adding architectural elements to your home can add even more depth, texture and visual interest to your home. It will make it unique and elevate the value of the home as soon as you walk through the door. Incorporate features like panelling, moulding or coffered ceilings.

Depending on your budget and personal preferences, you can also install architectural features into the property, such as a wall of books, a fireplace, marble worktops and more. These are really standout features.

Use high-quality materials in any feature that you incorporate into your home, with upscale finishes. Materials such as velvet can add even more luxury to the features around your home.

A simple and easy way to elevate your home is to place large mirrors around your home. These will reflect natural light into the room, making it feel bright and more spacious. To maximise the sunlight even more, you can make a bigger upgrade by installing larger windows, floor-to-ceiling glass doors and skylights in the main rooms. This can help increase natural light as well as connect you to the outside world. These elements can also help improve air quality with natural ventilation, providing your home with a multi-sensory space that feels spacious, fresh and high-end.

Colour and decor

The colours on the wall can make a huge difference. Even the tone of a particular colour can make the room go from a bold statement to luxury. Paint the walls with deep or rich colours, with brass or gold accents. Incorporate large art pieces with oversized frames to create a sophisticated focal point in your main rooms.

Decor will help you enhance the feel and ambience of any room without making major renovations. However, before you start adding decor around your home, you want to declutter and organise the space first. When a space is overly cluttered, it can instantly make it feel and look the opposite of luxurious. Clear out items you don’t want or don’t match the decor goals for your home. For the rest of the items that you want to keep, consider smart storage that seamlessly blends into the room, or use decorative trays to store the items.

Spend some time going to vintage shops where you can purchase second-hand items that have character and a luxurious feel. You can select pieces that have a story and reflect your personality, so you can begin to craft a home that is luxurious, but in your own unique way.

Nature and wellness

Nature and wellness go hand in hand with luxury. This will involve using biophilic design principles to engage your senses and create what feels like a serene sanctuary. To incorporate natural elements in your home, consider how you can first use natural materials in your updates and decor. Materials that are high-quality and sustainable include limestone, marble, bamboo and rich hardwoods. This creates both a rich sensory experience as well as a connection to nature.

Rather than the usual potted plants, see how you can go beyond this and create a living wall, a herb garden in your kitchen or big plants in elegant planters.

Create dedicated mindful spaces around your home, such as a quiet meditation corner, a yoga space or a cosy reading nook. Seamlessly integrate your outdoor space with your indoor space with retractable glass walls and materials that extend from the outside. This can help blend your home with your outdoor space.

Turn your bathroom into a luxurious spa-like experience. Upgrade your shower head with a rainfall showerhead, install a freestanding deep soaking bath tab, and even install a sauna or steam function into your space.

A luxury home can be built and crafted through a variety of updates. These updates include incorporating natural elements and intentional colours, and finishing touches. With the right approach, it can be very simple to transform your home into a luxurious sanctuary that promotes sophistication and well-being. Follow these top tips to get started.
