I hate birthdays.
Birthdays have always made me feel super uncomfortable. I have never really been someone that has lots of things on a list that I want so when my loved ones ask. I have always felt uncomfortable offering up things for others to buy.
Add to that the fact I know how super busy my friends and family are I have always tried to just sweep my birthday under the rug and not organised much as time is super precious and I just don’t want to put anyone out.
As the years have ticked by I have hated birthdays more. After all celebrating getting older is not something I have ever been comfortable with and nearing 40 has always had me anxious.
Finally in September I could no longer deny my age and I decided to relish my 40th year and 40th birthday by spending time with my nearest and dearest and planned for visiting Rome with Ollie, just us two .. however we never really got out the starting blocks as my latest operation was booked 2 weeks before my birthday so we had to postpone that trip .. although I am hoping we get to go next spring!
So in light of the fact I will be 2 weeks post op when I finally turned 40 I decided to plan smaller more manageable things instead.
For my birthday itself I had a lovely morning with all my boys opening some amazing presents .. of which Gin featured fairly heavily! Then after the boys were dropped off at School and Nursery, Ollie and I headed to Nottingham for some retail therapy and food.
After heading to update the kids autumn clothing with hoodies and joggers I made it into a handmade soap and toiletries shop and spent a small fortune on some divine soaps and bath bombs and then headed for lunch at Frankie and Bennies .. for me calamari followed by pasta and after filling our faces we decided to do the one thing we had wanted to do for several years…. Update our wedding rings!
Ollie’s band had practically snapped in 2, it was white gold and a fairly thin thickness band. Mine were also thin which meant when i put on weight I couldn’t wear them as sizing them up was a no go.
After heading to my parents where I was given my birthday card and gift it was off pick up the boys for a family tea out at Toby Carvery followed by eating my amazing birthday cake at home with my family.
The Rest Of The Month…
Now to make plans for being 41!
