Our Belated Bonfire Night 2016

Our Belated Bonfire Night 2016 The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseThis year the thought of the mad scrum to a local event and having a baby in tow we decided to make Bonfire Night more low-key this year and to still partake in some kind of event but this time from home.

So this year we decided to set up our own bonfire in the form of a new Chiminea and some logs, some camping chairs, blankets, sparklers and some ingredients to make smores and watch the nights sky just Ollie, Joshua and I, with Jacob snoozing away in his own bed all tucked up and warm.

Unfortunately the local sickness bug had other plans and knocked my biggest little man off his feet with a round of sickness that would have floored the biggest adult.

Instead our plans were put on hold till last night and we finally got to christen out new chimaera and burn our first logs on it, along with finally getting to play with some sparklers, and we weren’t fussed for fireworks anyway .. who needs all that noise and expense!

Although the initial plan had been to sit out there for a while Jacob is just getting over his bug so I loitered in the patio door while Joshua and Ollie had some fun with the sparklers.

Since we decided not to sit out there I couldn’t keep and eye on the smores either so I did them in the oven and were still amazingly moorish and sickly in the same breath .. how can that be?!

All in all I know it wasn’t entirely what was planned, our belated bonfire night was OK but more importantly I have decided that I like the retro 1980’s in the back garden feel.

Next year I am going to think of what else we can do out there to have some fun on bonfire night.

Who needs crowds of people and fireworks … we have sparklers and each other!

We did similar to you last year, we had smaller fireworks at our in-laws and it was a wonderful, cosy, family night. This year we braved a big display and now the kids are that bit older it all went really well.
