Our Family’s Festive Traditions

Now we are officially in December I can honestly say excitement is on a high over here in The Oliver’s Madhouse. 

For us the restive period is always about traditions and family time and although our festivities always start off with an adult night in with lots of wrapping and some festive tipples. The key over the festive period for us has always been child focussed. 

We always always go and see Santa, no matter what the weather is like or how much time we might have … it’s a priority visit!

Biscuit decorating is always on the list of traditions too. I buy some pre baked Christmas biscuits for the kids to decorate with icing pens and hundreds and thousands to sprinkle, one biscuit is selected as the biscuit to give to Santa from the bunch.

As a family we have an Elf on the shelf visitor that appears on the 1st December and spends every evening creating havoc, his name is Cecil.

Cecil flies home to the North Pole and leaves behind a Christmas Eve box on Christmas Eve morning for the family and a letter to say thank you for having him.

Inside our Christmas Eve box is a pair of Christmas PJ’s for everyone, a family DVD and a round of chocolates. All ideal for Christmas Eve afternoon/evening for some family time. 

This year is an extra special year for us, as baby Jacob is about to celebrate his very first Christmas … Jacob is 10 months old and already gets excited by empty boxes so I can only imagine just how excited he is going to be, although we are aware that the gifts he will probably not be as interested in as we hoped for until all the empty boxes have been removed.

Thinking that I might end up having my planned major surgery at any point we have been on organise Christmas overload and have everything now ready to go for the big day including out much loved Christmas Eve box. 

With PJ’s in for the adults we were thrilled when Mothercare heard about our family Christmas Eve box and wanted to send the boys some super duper festive PJ’s and something a little special for each boy too. 

When the parcel from Mothercare arrived I was thrilled, the JP’s are amazing and are so cool that I have no doubt the boys are going to look fab on Christmas Eve night! However discovering  the very special personalised gifts for the boys almost made me cry! 

I had no idea that Mothercare did personalised gifts but the range for Christmas seems to be fairly vast and for my boys they selected so well! With a wonderful first Christmas bear for Jacob and a beautifully sumptuous personalised christmas teddy bear sack I am not going to lie I was both excited for Christmas but a little sad that another milestone for Jacob is upon us.
