If you are feeling the January blues, then it can be a good time to get planning. You might want to plan your travels for the year, plan a party, or plan some changes to the home. Whether you want to redecorate or renovate, this new decade could be the time to make some changes. Are there some things that you’ve been wanting to change for a while? This could be the push that you need.
We can be naturally inclined to make changes and have a declutter once the festive period has been and gone. The home can feel busy and cluttered with a lot of extra ‘stuff’ that is just left in the home. So that can be a good place to start to channel your inner Marie Kondo and bin, recycle or sell on the things that you have that no longer spark joy. Flooring, though, is something in the home that can make a real difference, without having to even lift a paintbrush or get a screwdriver out. So here are some ideas for flooring around the home, to help with your plans.
Hallway
The hallway is a room that has a high foot-flow, with people running in and out of the home, especially with some muddy boots at this time of year. If this is the case with you, then you’ll need to make sure that you choose a floor type that is durable and hard-wearing, which is why something like engineered wood flooring could work. Flooring like that is easy to clean durable, and low-maintenance. Anything that is wipe-clean is a winner for the hallway.
Living Room
A cosy space is what most people want to have for their living room. Wooden floors can work well, if you have a fluffy rug. But generally, carpet is one of the best options for a living room. It can create a feeling of comfort as well as warmth. Just make sure that you get a great underlay with carpet, as that is what makes the difference.
Kitchen
Your kitchen is another area that needs a flooring type that is solid and durable. There will be a lot of spills, water, food crumbs, and footprints in and out of the kitchen. Hardwood flooring can be a good idea for the kitchen, as well as durable tile flooring. It will depend on the look of your kitchen as to what flooring you have, as wooden flooring might work better for a kitchen with a more classic look. For a modern look, then tiles tends to be what works better.
Bedroom
Wooden flooring can look good in a bedroom, but on a practical level, it isn’t always the best for a bedroom. It can feel a little cool under your feet first thing in the morning, and is just generally not the cosiest or most comfortable. A bedroom isn’t a room with a lot of use throughout the day, so it can be a room that you can get away with having a fresh and light carpet.
