Pumpkin Picking In Nottinghamshire

boys pushing wheelbarrows in a pumpkin patch

Pumpkin Picking In Nottinghamshire The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseWe have for many years been regulars at the pumpkin patch.

Although we aren’t massive Halloween fans we religiously visit one of the 3 local pumpkin patches in Nottinghamshire through the October as we love an afternoon carving pumpkins and then the boys and their Dad make some homemade pumpkin soup.

This year has been a real humdinger of a year for me.

I have struggled with taking back control of my life after 18 months of COVID restrictions and my PTSD has been unusually regular at rearing its head so I have been fighting internal demons on and off for the last 12 months.

Most of anxieties when they first started were to do with control and so a year of on and off lockdowns really have taken their toll.

Over the last month or so I have really felt like I have turned a corner and life is now much more on an even keel with knowing I am now free within reason to make plans and carry them out.

So after the boys returned home from a week at their grandparents at the coast this half term we headed to the pumpkin patch at Nottinghamshire ‘Pick You Own Pumpkins’ which is the nearest patch that doesn’t charge for entry into the field on top of the pumpkin cost.

Being so close to Halloween we still had plenty to choose from and the patch was reasonably quiet which we preferred.

The boys this year were both easily able to push their own wheelbarrows. Last year Jacob wanted to push one of his own instead of sharing with Joshua and he struggled. This year he looked so grown up pushing his around the patch with ease!

When we first started picking pumpkins all those years back we had some lovely smallish pumpkins but as the years have gone by the boys have been more selective over their pumpkin selections.

The boys like them perfectly round and a medium/large size. In fact for Jacob he likes to select even bigger offerings so normally Ollie (Hubs) has to negate his preference by showing him slightly smaller options.

This year was no different.

Thankfully this year we didn’t have to take 2 hours to find the 2 most Oliver perfect pumpkins. A mere 40 minutes of selection and a quick trip through the exit to pay and we were on our way home.

Each year I know we get closet to the year the boy don’t want to visit the pumpkin patch anymore as they grown up. However, I am holding onto this moments as long as I can.
