This Christmas Jacob was inundated with construction style toys, which don’t get me wrong he loves. However over the last couple of months I had noticed that he enjoys more role play type games and give him some ‘play food’ and he is one super happy boy. So when we had the opportunity to try out the LeapFrog Shapes & Sharing Picnic Basket we jumped at the chance. 

Product Description

The Shape and sharing picnic basket helps children learn about colours, shapes and even using manners! Included with the basket there are 16 accessories pieces including plastic food (that make the shapes) plates, forks cups and even a super cute picnic blanket! 

The picnic basket itself is an interactive shape sorter that will recognise each of the food pieces and identifies the shape and colour of each piece of food (shape) you post through its lid. With each request the picnic basket makes for a set food, colour or shape on getting it right it congratulates the child and praises the child for its success.

For ages 6- 36 months, however Jacob is nearly at the top end of this age range but he still found it super fun to play with.

Our Thoughts

Overall we were thrilled with the overall size of the toy. Its big enough that little hands can easily pick it up and carry it and all the accessories are big enough for those not so nimble little digits to manipulate the food shapes into the basket but without being too big that it makes the toy feel really cumbersome.

Jacob loved the fact there was 2 of everything in the playset and he liked getting me involved in having a picnic, however he liked taking the food shapes off my plate and posting them more! 

I personally liked the baskets voice, many electronic toys have really high pitched electronic voices that often also are so much louder than they need to be. Thankfully the voice was clear and concise and of a really reasonable volume too so no wanting to chuck it out the window 10 minutes into playing. 

The £22 price tag is also more than reasonable for the playset, making an idea gift choice
