Siblings building relationships is a beautiful sight to see.
Fiercely loyal to each other Joshua and Jacob are like 2 peas in a pod.
Brotherly Love
Joshua laps up the adoration from his younger brother. And Jacob idolises Joshua. As much as its a magical sight to behold it can be equally as frustrating.
Jacob is only 3 and Joshua is 8. That 5 year gap is fabulous on so many levels. Joshua is old enough to go and play in his room when Jacob is riding him up so we are able to separate them. The age gap also means that Joshua can guide play, showing him how to do things.
Brotherly Frustrations
The age gap is not always good however, sometimes Jacob just doesn’t understand that he is not big enough to do everything that Joshua does. Often resulting in tears and us separating them.
Forever The Protector
We recently took both boy to soft play and discovered that no matter what the age gap is these two are thick as thieves both in play and in protecting each other.
First out of soft play was Joshua concerned that some other child had taken a soft play shape off Jacob and that he might be upset. Thankfully he wasn’t upset but it was nice to see Joshua being protective. This tends to be the norm for Joshua. He is the sensitive protector.
A few minutes later we watched another boy tell both Jacob and Joshua they were not allowed to play on a certain part of the soft play.
This boy was probably about 8ish. Joshua not wanting to upset anyone started to walk away upset at being denied access to the rollers. Jacob however walked straight up to the boy pointed his finger at him and said “no we are going to play” pushed past the boy who denied access and upset Joshua and turned and shouted to his brother to come and play.
They spend the day loving and hating each other in equal measure some days but I know for now at least they will be each others biggest allies and supporters and long may this continue!
Sibling bonding and making memories is priceless and such an amazing part of childhood.
