The End Of School Term & The Start Of Summer Holidays

This last year it come as no surprise that my blog had taken a back seat and my mojo generally took a tumble.

I have avoided social media and I have lived in a closely guarded bubble. 

Over the last couple of weeks I have felt that life is slowly and steadily getting a little more normal. 

I can watch a film at the pictures, I can walk outside anytime and anywhere I like. I can see friends and family when I please. Even if thats a little more restricted on how many we can see at one time. 

However I have to say I am thrilled this school year is over. 

I am sure I am not alone in feeling like my kids missed out on so much of the school year and the adventures they should have had in year 5 and reception class.

Joshua this school year has continued at a rapid pace of amazing growth with his learning and although initially struggled with the first lockdown and his emotions and mental health he has come on in leaps and bounds. 

The next journey we have to consider is preparing Joshua for his secondary school place. I am already feeling anxiety over this transition but am determined not to pass this anxiety onto him. Thankfully Jen at The Mad House has some fantastic tips on choosing a senior school that we have been looking at.

This academic year he found a set of teachers who got to know him well and they have challenged him which has been good for him.

Jacob this year however has academically not done so well. 

He started Reception class behind his peers with a speech delay that was only supported by 4 Zoom calls with a speech and language therapist

Starting Reception class he struggled to be understood so we were not surprised with parents evening that we were given the feedback that he was behind his class mates. Normally we would be anxious for his lack of academic growth.

But we are not. 

For us Jacob has grown in so many other positive ways. 

His speech is so much clearer now and finally everyone can now understand him. Although we do still struggle when he gets excited so we do have to ask him to slow down! 

He has finally started taking and interest in learning over the last couple of weeks. Which is an amazing achievement as prior to that he wasn’t interested at all so I feel thats a massive step forward in its own right and we are very proud of him.

This school year we end it with 2 happy children who are making progress in their own ways and I am excited to start even more normality in September with them both, watching Joshua enjoy his final year in Primary school and Joshuas journey into year 1.
