I stroked my Mummy ego for a while and decided that deep down I knew he was not getting the gist and learnt a very valuable lesson that potty training a toddler will only work when they are ready not when they might be ready!
So with certain signs of being ready back in January we set about the journey again.
I am not going to lie, It was hard
For the first 3 1/2 weeks I was pretty much tied to the house… I made that choice in fairness to stop any extra pressure for either of us.
Within 2 weeks we had almost cracked the peeing in a potty but we were having major, major nightmares with using a potty or the toilet for a poo! It probably took till late February, early March for it to become second nature to ask to use the potty.
I kid you not …. I was at my wit’s end with it. Having chatted with him he knew what he should be doing but he had decided he didn’t like it?!
Knowing he knew in his head what he should be doing was the only thing that kept me persevering.
Through the last 3 months we have only had just a couple of accidents both of which while we have been out of the house, one at nursery a couple of weeks ago …. he won’t aim himself or sit and push his tail into the pot so it leaves the waterworks spraying everywhere if he is not concentrating.
The second accident was at a children’s soft play! … yep I was the Mother who’s peed all over the slide because he was too busy playing to remember to go and I was too busy talking to check if he wanted to go *Mum of the year award goes too …. Me!*
Last weekend marked a momentous occasion …..
The potty’s have gone into the loft …..
Joshua is no longer a baby but a fully fledged little man who is now a super dude at using the grown up toilet .. sometimes with a little assistance but still he is asking to go when he needs it, using it without hassle or angst and is getting better each time at knowing the drill!
We have said good-bye to nappies, pull ups and now the potty … where does the time go?
