The point and grunt just about sums up Jacob right now.
Out of all 3 of my children it seems Jacob is one on his own.
The older two talked from an early age and before their first birthdays they chattered in sentences that left no need for an imagination on what they were wanting, needing or talking about.
In fact most days I wished for peace and quiet.
Jacob it seems has excelled in cuteness but has forgotten even the basics of his words. Gone are the Momma and Daddas he had managed to utter instead he is a point and grunt kinda kid.
I think his lacking in vocals can be put down to us for not making sure he uses his words. Especially his brother who fetches him anything he might need without having to utter a word or even think about it.
I think over the last week the screeching, grunting and pointing really is driving me nuts and it’s now sounding like chalk down a blackboard when he does it.

I keep repeating basic words to him like cup, drink, dinner, food, up, out and so on .. But it’s making no difference he steadfastly refuses to use real words that I know he knows .. It’s like he is withholding them from on purpose to see what I am going to do about it.
With my older two I never had this problem, words are spewing from them from practically day dot and I would pray for a quiet afternoon but now I am craving the chatter that he should be giving us.
I think this just goes to prove how determined Jacob actually is. He has let some words slip through when he thinks I am not in earshot so it really is down to him not wanting to say any real words rather than him not being able to.
Please tell me I am not alone and that your little person was the same … I’m feeling out on a limb … lets hope it’s just a phase.
B did this ALL the time, please don’t worry.
However I know how hard it is listening to it over & over haha!
I swear they do stuff just to test us.
*snort* as awful as it sounds I am so glad its not just me … he really was driving me nuts
Children are all different and develop at different times and stages. Mini was mimicking speech from 6 months, but he was so lazy and didn’t even crawl till he was 14 months!
My other two were very similar so Jacob has been a shock to the system lol Jacob is working opposite Mini as he was on the move really early but speech and mimicking is not his thing
My little sausage (16 months old) bum shuffled from around 9 months, started walking with my help ie holding my fingers since 12 months and in the past few weeks, has started crawling! He’s also pointing and grunting, has been for months now. He knows how to say loads of words but just won’t! He’s so damn stubborn. The pointing is driving me to distraction though. It feels like the generation game when I have to go through every single item in his vicinity until I get a toothy grin that that’s the one he’s looking for! They are sent to try us after all.
oh Tracy I hear your pain its a nightmare isnt it! even now he is still pointing and grunting and i was so hoping for more words by now
