The Third Birthday

The Third Birthday The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseLife has kind of gone on a tangent of late with time slipping through my fingers at a rapid rate of knots.

I guess it’s not different where the kids are concerned either. As I seem to have blinked and missed most of Jacobs first years as surely he can’t be 3 already?!

This year with Joshua being at school and work commitments overflowing we decided to just chill down the birthday celebrations this year. We get manically obsessed with the ‘perfect’ birthday but we know that no matter what stress filled event we plan the kids prefer just to be with us without the stress.

So this year we decided to just spend some time together letting Jacob play at soft play and then having a family tea.

The Birthday

The Third Birthday The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseBirthdays in this house all start in our bedroom. The kids head into our bed and the gift unwrapping and card reading commences.

Birthday breakfasts are a normal breakfast with chocolate pastries as an extra. Although if its my breakfast I prefer to ditch the pastries and go for a full fry up, normally at Toby Carvery!

The Presents

This year we spent weeks asking Jacob what he wanted for gifts but he only asked for “presents”

The Third Birthday The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseSo we were free to get creative with gifts from binoculars to play tents and he was utterly thrilled. He put his new found unwrapping skills from Christmas to good use and made light work of unwrapping!

Soft Play Fun

After Joshua was taken to school we headed off to a local soft play located in a garden centre. Jacob got stuck in with his soft play adventure. Obviously we had to stay for a drink and a gingerbread biscuit for Jacob and breakfast cobs for Ollie and I who missed breakfast.

Jacob stood his ground in the soft play after coming across another little boy that was using everyone as a punch bag. Thankfully he came out ready for home defiantly proud at telling no!

Birthday Cake

The Third Birthday The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseAs far as cakes go we knew that we would need a chocolate cake as that is Jacobs favourite but after learning about my lacking cake making Joshua’s birthday cake a few years back I decided I would make the chocolate cake and ice it and then I would buy a dinosaur cake topper from ebay and thank goodness I did.

This time round there was no stress or tears and Jacob loved his cake so much that he didn’t know or care that it was only half homemade!

This year has gone so quickly that I am slightly panicking about next year as his next birthday will signify the year he starts school too!
