The Wonder Of Whitby

The Wonder Of Whitby The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseMany of my friends and family are aware of my love of Whitby, not only was it a destination that was close to my heart from my childhood caravan holidays but back in 2010 it became extra special to Ollie and I when the day before travelling there for a mini break we discovered that I was in fact pregnant with Joshua.

There was something so much more magical about that trip to Whitby than many others before it and from those that followed it.

We were set to embark on the exciting yet terrifying journey of parenthood together.

My daughter was born 10 years before and it felt like the first time all over again although with the knowledge I could do it and with the help of Ollie I knew we could do it together instead of on my own.

We walked hand in hand on the pier, we sat in the rain and ventured on a boat to take in the beautiful sea front.

But most of all we talked, from morning till evening, while the waves crashed and the seagulls swooped, we talked about the future, what lay ahead, our excitement and our fears … We talked about how we would make it work and what we hoped Joshua would be like.

We ate fish and chips, went bowling, and discovered what would be our infamous rock.

A rock on Whitby beach in which we sat for hours and made lists of baby names, it’s the rock we took our son back to when he was 4 weeks old and it’s the same rock we discovered again when we eloped and married in Whitby 2 years later and smiled.

We have had many holidays since that one, most with more exotic surroundings, more money and more laughter but this one break away will always remain special in my heart as it officially was the one where we planned to build and strengthen our family.
