The First Family Trip Crabbing In Whitby

As most of my regular readers know I have been a regular visitor to Whitby for decades. Ollie and I loved it that much we loved and married in Whitby many years ago.

Since starting a family we have visited at least once a year and most years many time. However this year things have been so different and we were worried this would be the first year we missed a visit. Although with a trip planned further down the coast near Filey for the half term we jumped on the chance to drive up the coast to visit for a day.

We wanted our trip to Whitby to be spent outside as possible so we decided to finally get all of us crabbing at Whitby in the harbour for the first time.

Joshua had been with Grandma and Grandad and Ollie a few years back when we took a trip to Whitby when Jacob was a baby but he was fussy so I stayed at the apartment with Jacob. However this was the first time we were all together crabbing.

Crabbing at the coast is such a lovely way to spend some time. Watching the magic in the eyes of the kids discovering that not all food comes from Tesco is priceless. It is also a super cost effective way to spend a few hours to entertain everyone.

Jacob liked it for the first 30 minutes holding his line but got bored when this brother pulled out his first crab before him and as such he decided to take the lead role as crab master and look after the buckets with Grandads assistance.

We were given some bait from the shop the crabbing lines and buckets came from but we had better luck when a kind lady handed over some bacon rind. In fact there was no stopping them once the bacon was added.

We spent most of the morning down by the harbour crabbing with the kids and it was a fantastic experience to share with them. One in which we will hopefully share with the kids annually when we visit Whitby.
