At Christmas I gifted my husband Ollie an Amazon Echo.
The family loved it so much that Joshua was desperate for one of his own and although I was concerned originally after downloading the app and realising I could in fact keep tabs on what he was using it for and restrict him being able to order random tat from Amazon on my account we decided to buy him one for his birthday.
The Birthday Present
When he received his gift we set certain boundaries for use. Like not going above a set volume. Not using it once it was bedtime and also that if he attempted to abuse it in any way it would be removed from him room.
Over the last few months he has been eagerly appointing his Alexa Dot as a new best friend and beyond finding out he could ring the Echo in the living room to request drinks. He has loved his new found freedom.
Song Choice
Although his Alexa is in his room I have had the misfortune of listening to his *cough cough* interesting song choices for a while now he knows how to start the music on both of them!
All I can say is if you haven’t heard LadBaby’s ‘We Built This City’ you have to just for the experience never mind Joshua’s all time fave, SpongeBob’s ‘Best Day Ever’

The Working Mind Of An 8 Year Old
It’s fair to say my little boy has an awful taste in music, the duck song although funny its slightly annoying – think baby shark and you’re on the same wave length.
What his list of questions also shows me is he is so diverse and eager to learn new things. This is probably something I never really have given much thought too.
I had presumed he was just listening to music and asking Alexa for Jokes.
Having taken a look back over other weeks of use too it seems his little mind is constantly searching for answers. Not all questions were easy to talk about with him either.
He has asked her “what is cancer?” along with “When am I going to die?” all questions that for a sensitive little guy like him are all rather deep. I am pleased we have been able to access the history so we have had the opportunity to talk to him about things. Something we wouldn’t have been able to do if we couldn’t access his history.
