Tips For Travelling with Young Children

Tips For Travelling with Young Children The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseTravelling is stressful for all of us, yet when you travel with children, it can become much worse and heightened. Kids have a tendency not to understand why you have to queue for security, and sometimes they’re unable to be distracted by their colouring books or electronic devices. Children can be difficult to travel with, but that doesn’t mean you should have to dread going on holiday with them. Here’s some ideas on how help when you travel with young children.

What to Pack
Your children will enjoy routine, and so the sight of a suitcase could cause chaos and tantrums. When it comes to packing for your children, be sure to get them involved. Allow them to take a few home comforts such as their favourite stuffed toy, but say no when they want to take six pairs of trousers. After all, you and your partner are the ones who are left carrying their bags!

Airport security can either be a breeze or it can be a nightmare. With children, preparing them in advance can help your whole family get through it faster and without a hitch.

To start, pack food and drink that keeps them nourished before you hit security; then once you have to dump them before crossing through security, be sure to buy new bottles of water and some healthy snacks. Unless your children are too young, explaining to them what is expected of them can work wonders.

Dealing with Delays
One of the most frustrating experiences for any traveller is a flight delay. Waiting rooms in airports are notoriously uncomfortable, though they are getting better. However, waiting out a delay with kids can be a very frustrating experience, which is why bringing a tablet or laptop that has plenty of movies downloaded can help ease the experience.

You as a parent should also be aware of your rights involving delays and compensation, especially if the delay has caused problems at your destination. FairPlane can help you win your compensation claim, but you need to know your rights first so that you can act accordingly beforehand. After all, you’re entitled to free food and drink, and if you’re going to be delayed overnight, then you and your family should get to stay at a hotel.

Keeping your child entertained can be a challenge, but it is possible. Be sure to pack a bag that’s tailored to their likes. If your kid likes to read, then have a couple of books in their rucksack. Also include water, food and some fun games that can be played on the aeroplane, such as card games or even an electronic device such as a Nintendo DS. Of course, as a parent you may want to unwind on the flight, but you should engage with them. Not doing so can cause them to act up.

Travel is such a great experience for children and for the family. Don’t assume your kids need kid-specific activities to do. They can be just as happy exploring a museum or an ancient city as they would be at a playground. All you need to do is have fun and spend time together – with a few strategically packed day packs with you. Preparation goes a long way, both towards helping you avoid catastrophes and enjoy your trip, so start preparing today.
