Use Your Home to Enhance your Mood

Use Your Home to Enhance your Mood The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseThe home is where most of us spend the majority of our lives. It is one of the most significant investments the majority of us will ever make. Not only that but, did you know that the home can have a major influence over how we think and feel. It is a huge mood enhancer or detractor which you are living inside of.

Remember that feeling when you first moved in? How happy and excited you felt. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have that sensation all over again? Unfortunately, what with busy lives, careers, families, social engagements, the home can often be out on the back burner indefinitely, after that initial drive to make things perfect. When it is all lush and new, you had a great sense of happiness. But over time, things have started to fray at the edges. Life simply gets in the way of making it great again. You get overwhelmed. There may be loads of housework to do, the kitchen and bathroom are looking tired, and the home is simply filled with junk.

All this adds up and takes its toll on your mental health. Well, it is about time you took control of your house and started fixing those things that need fixing.

Have a clear-out

Even if your schedule is jam-packed, you need you to take some time out and get rid of all the accumulation of rubbish and broken things in your home. The truth is that if you are always surrounded by a whole load of old and useless things, you start to absorb that feeling into your soul. You become depressed and oppressed by it all. The more time goes on, the worse you will feel, and sometimes you don’t even know why it is just a creeping sensation that starts to permeate every aspect of your being. But you do have the power to stop it.

Use Your Home to Enhance your Mood The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseIt could be that you can only spare ten minutes, but every day get a bin liner and start to fill it up with all the stuff that you no longer want and need. Getting rid of old things also has a meditative effect in the sense that it allows you to let go of the past. Things change, that’s life, you have to accept that, and decluttering the home is a symbolic gesture of that intent. You are the master of your own destiny, and no accumulation of rubbish can stop you.

Clean up

Keeping on top of the housework is not easy. If you have let things slide, then you need to get back on it. If this means spending a Sunday having a deep spring clean, so be it. If you have managed to get rid of all the rubbish, then you need to maximize this initiative. Get the duster out and get rid of those cobwebs that have been staring at you for the last five years. Clean the windows, sweep, vacuum, and polish. There is nothing better than having a spotlessly clean home. It is a new start, a new beginning. If the home is fresh, you will feel fresh and clean too. Once you have gone through the trial of the deep clean, all it will take is ten minutes a night to keep on top of it. With cleaning, little and often will keep those dusty gremlins at bay.

Natural light

Have a look at the layout of the furniture, are there any large wardrobes in front of a window. If there are, then move them. Think about how you can maximize the natural light into the house as it is a huge mood enhancer because it encourages the body to produce serotonin, which is the brain’s happy chemical. If you are one for keeping dark curtains closed, stop this habit and open up the curtain, let light into the house. To maximize this effect, strategically place mirrors to rebound more light. This will also have the effect of making the house seem larger. More space or at least the illusion of it will make the mind feel less constrained and freer.

How long was it since you last had a new bathroom or kitchen? A great way to make you feel better is to invest in a new kitchen or bathroom with all the mod-cons. It will make the home feel entirely new again. You will be filled by that happy sensation that you had when you first moved in. What you want is to have a home to be proud of. Somewhere you want people to come and show off. No one should feel embarrassed by their home and, for that reason, not invite friends and family over. This can be devastating for your mental health. So invest in a Victorian Bathrooms 4U and allow yourself to have that feeling of pride. After all, you work hard, so you deserve to be proud of where you live.

Brighten things up

A quick and easy way to brighten up the home is with paint. Have a look around which rooms are too dark due to lousy wallpaper or dull paint. It is very easy to get down the DIY store and purchase some light-colored paints. Think nice pastel colors, whites, beiges. You may also want to mix and match different colors. Two walls, one light color, and the other two another light color. Re-painting a wall can have a huge effect, it can make the space appear larger, and instead of sucking in light with a dark color, a light color will rebound it. You will have that ‘ah’ feeling in a newly painted room. In addition, thinking about painting old furniture you no longer enjoy. Why not sand down that old wardrobe and paint it a light color, that will help things seem breezier. Think also about perhaps adding stencils or decal on the walls and furniture. You do not have to think in terms of block coloring. The world is your oyster, be as creative as you want.
