A Guide to Moving without Destroying Your Flooring The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseThe flooring in your home is a major investment and you want to keep it as pristine as possible. You can do this by carefully moving your furniture and belongings. Whether you’re moving out so you and your family can move to another country, or maybe you’re eager to get the deposit back from your apartments for rent in savannah ga, there is no doubt about it that moving can be fairly tough.

So, how exactly can you ensure that the flooring stays completely safe when moving everything out? What exactly can be done? Well, believe it or not, there are actually several ways to ensure that your floors stay entirely protected during the moving and removing process. Here are some ways to keep those floors protected!

1. Pack things in a way that will not damage the floor

Sounds fairly simple, right? While this may be the most straightforward tip, keep in mind that this isn’t always expected anyway. Sure, packing items in a box is easy, but it’s very straight forward too. But, not everything that is getting packed is going into a box, right? Just keep this in mind. If someone can go into a box, why not just have it in a box? Another thing to mention, while it’s tempting to pack items into a wagon or even a suitcase with wheels, by all means, avoid them rolling on the floor. That can potentially create marks on the floor.

2. Cover the floor with a tarp or plastic sheeting before moving heavy items

Covering the floor is a great way to protect it from scratches and dents. You can buy large plastic tarps at most home improvement stores. You’re also going to want to keep in mind what season it is too. If it’s wet and rainy outside, then this can certainly help with protecting the floor from mud and dirt.

3. Cover furniture with blankets or sheets for protection

Depending on the size of the items you’re moving out, you could lay them on blankets and scoot them out. This is a trick that a lot of people use in order to protect their flooring and to help the piece that they’re moving stay in good condition as well. So, if you have any old blankets, why not use them for this? Just make sure that the blankets are folded up enough so it provides a nice layer of cushion for the floors and the piece of furniture itself.

4. Use furniture sliders to move heavy furniture

Furniture sliders are a clever way to move furniture around a room or to get it up the stairs. These small items can help shift your furniture into the perfect position. You can even use them on carpeting too. Evo Supplies has some sliders that include little wheels, so this could be perfect for you if you’re completely deadset on leaving that floor in completely pristine condition.

5. Utilize your carpet

When it comes to moving things in or outside of your home, for the most part, if its covered in carpets or rugs, you don’t need to worry. Usually, carpets and rugs only get damaged if there are rips, tears, or stains. These are just way softer when moving heavy items too. Sure, you can’t utilize wheels if you’re looking into sliders, but moving can still be easy and you can remain stress-free as long as you’re moving or removing items in a carpeted room!

6. Tape cardboard or newspaper over any sharp edges of hardwood floors

Protect yourself, your family, and your flooring by taping cardboard or newspaper to any sharp corners that stick out on the hardwood floors in your home. This will not only prevent accidents such as pieces of wood or tile breaking while moving items.

7. Use felt pads on furniture feet for hardwood floors

Furniture feet can scratch hardwood floors, so protect them with felt pads. To do this, cut out a pad from felt and use double-sided tape to attach it to the bottom of the furniture foot. This will ensure that your floor remains intact for years to come! Ideally, when you’re getting new pieces of furniture, you’ll want to put those on the legs or feet of the furniture first.

8. Put down protective mats on any other surfaces

Whether you have tiles, marble, wooden flooring, rugs, or even carpet, if you’re feeling just far too unsure of whether or not your flooring will be protected, then protective mats can help. These are much thicker than a plastic tarp, but keep in mind that they are a little bit more expensive. Alternatively, you could use cardboard but it doesn’t have the same effect as the protective mats to.

9.Use a dolly

When it comes to using wheels for hardwood flooring, it usually scuffs them up. Most wheels, such as a suitcase wheel, lack any rubber for the wheel itself. Dollies, however, include very thick rubber wheels. So you can move items confidently just knowing that your flooring will not get destroyed. Dollies make the moving process a lot easier and they also don’t have major weight limits compared to other moving methods.

So, this is something that you definitely want to try. You can either buy your own dolly at a home improvement store or you can even look into renting a dolly if you’re using a moving company such as Uhaul. Always keep your options open, as it helps out a lot!

In general, moving can be a major hassle. Even if that is the case, there are some ways to help yourself entirely avoid having to deal with any accidents such as items breaking or floors getting completely destroyed solely due to the whole moving process. So, just make sure you know what your options are and just have an open mind while you’re doing all of this.
