Active Family Month Challenge – “Go For A Spin”

This week for the Mark Warner Active Family month challenge the theme for this week is ‘Go For A Spin’ ….. the possibilities lets face it were endless however I am not brave and therefore popping for a spin white water rafting or Sphereing  was so not going to happen at The Oliver’s Madhouse .. yes we are mad but not brave! however we did start the week with some quality time ‘going for a spin’ round the crazy golf course. We thought we would break ourselves into the challenge gently!

So with a new vigor we hitched it up a gear and took the challenge by the horns!

We finally took Joshua on his first bike ride, although he was too little to peddle we hired some bikes, hitched up his little buggy and set off!

As some of you already know I have been on a weigh loss mission and have lost over 4 stones and over recent weeks I have been attending 3 boot camps a week but nothing prepared me for the bike! …… I am sure bikes have got heavier … or I just need to get on one far more often?

I managed about 20 mins with Joshua on the back of my bike before I wanted to cough up my lungs on the dust track, so next it was Daddies turn!

Holding my hand in the air I have to say I enjoyed it far more with no Joshua on the back, the wind hitting my face and then turning to see Joshua’s little face as they passed me by.

Before setting out on this epic 1 hour long journey I had completed a boot camp session and my physical reserves was dropping. That and obviously years of neglecting my health and fitness were also not helpful! So when I started an incline that stopped me in my tracks I did for a split second want to cry! I know it didn’t seem steep but it was steeper than it looked!

I did persevere and got there in the end, which I found most empowering! however Joshua shouting from his prime position “Mummy it’s broke” did not help matters as by that stage I was well and truly knackered!

At just over an hour out on our first family bike ride, there were no injuries, plenty of laughs, 2 saddle sore bottoms, 3 of the Oliver’s covered in dust and sweat and a desire to go again! .. not bad for a start!

Although not to be outdone! after his sleep in the afternoon Joshua did try to get some peddle power in, albeit without peddles … but the thought was there!
