Three Key Tips to Every Parent’s Summer Holiday Checklist

Three Key Tips to Every Parent’s Summer Holiday Checklist The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseGreat news – it’s holiday season!

And how do we celebrate the beginning of summer here in the UK? With grey skies, rain and generally rubbish weather.

Yes, June hasn’t quite seemed like June yet, and we’re all hoping for a turnaround in the weather very soon.

Regardless, these dreary conditions. You will have no doubt got you more excited about any holidays you’ve booked in sunnier climates. But, as the head of the family, you’ve probably got plenty of planning ahead of you to make sure things go smoothly.

The best way to make sure you’re properly planned is to use a checklist, but with so much to plan, where do you start?

Here are three key tips to remember when creating your complete holiday plan.

Nail the Essential Admin Well Ahead of Time

Every holiday will have essential admin attached to it, some general and some specific to your destination.

Three Key Tips to Every Parent’s Summer Holiday Checklist The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseUnfortunately, you’re in charge of the boring bits, so the sooner you can get the important things checked off; the better.

This starts with the most obvious items that you can’t leave until the last minute. Are everyone’s passports in date? Have you sorted the right travel insurance? Are there any specific vaccinations you or the kids need for the visit?

Make sure to have developed a complete travel itinerary as well. Whether it’s Malaga transfers or Venetian boat trips, make sure every part of your journey is covered.

Do Your Research

There’s nothing worse than getting to your location and realising you have no idea where you are. Where to go and what to do. Sure, you can find out from the locals or the staff at your hotel once you’re there. But it’s always better to know the best sites and attractions before you set foot in your chosen destination.

Especially with kids that can get restless at the first sign of trouble, it makes sense to be fully armed with activities to do and sights to see. These days, that kind of stuff is pretty easy to find out online, and you’ll thank yourself once you’re there.

Finally, in amongst all the standard packing and preparation, one thing many people forget about is looking after things at home whilst you are gone.

Make a ‘closedown procedure’ list for your home, so you can feel confident the house is safe and sound whilst you’re away.

Make sure everything is turned off to save on bills. And make sure the property is fully secure with any alarms set. If you’re going away for a while, maybe ask a family member or friend to check in on the house for you every now and again.

Being thorough in looking after the house whilst you’re away will give you the full peace of mind you need to enjoy your holiday.

As a general rule, to really enjoy your holiday, you need to put some less fun groundwork in before you go. Just remember, the more prepared you are, the less chance of transport mix ups. Check in problems and general kid meltdown along the way.

It might not be anything new, but the good old-fashioned checklist is still the best way to make sure you’re set and ready to go.
